SCUBA UPDATE

I would like to take this time to
thank you for conducting
business with us during 2009,
and hope that you will continue
to patronize us during 2010. The
Big Kahuna says lets get out and
do some diving this summer,
also keep in touch for future
international dive travel.

DEPARTMENT ISSUES

ASCENT RATES

For many years we have lectured on 60’ per minute ascent rates, and making safety stops at 15’. Within the past few years diving computers have built in alarms that let you know when you are exceeding approximately a 40’ per minute ascent rate. Resent studies encourage a slower ascent rate. Our recommendation is a 30’ per minute ascent rate with a stop at 30’ for three minutes then ascend to 15’ for a three-five minute stop. This procedure may prevent that rapid ascent to the surface, lowering the risk of bubble formation.
